2023 Guinness World Record (GWR) ATTEMPT

The Only Way is Up!

Coached by current GWR holder and functional fitness specialist with many international awards to his name, Marcus Bondi. He is training me on my journey in my attempt to break a current GWR in 2023.

This GWR attempt goes beyond just setting the record itself…

With depression, fears and helplessness at an all-time high, more than ever, people feel that there’s no way out of their adversities.

Often, these harder times bring complex stresses, pressures and emotions that accompany the challenge they’re already faced with.

When this happens, self-awareness becomes a very uncomfortable skill to deploy (as we “look into the mirror” of what we’re shaken by).

This makes it hard for us to see who we really are.

While, yes, our emotions are valid and affecting us, our strength seems nowhere to be found and the situation feels stagnant.

This is the “sticking point” where most people get stuck.

This is where I was before my injury.,,

Just like a radio station, it was hard to “hear” (see) the other side of what I was “listening to” (experiencing).

Let’s say you’re tuned into 88.7AM, you won’t hear what’s playing on 106.9FM. Just like someone feeling extremely anxious, it’d be hard for them to see how they could be extremely confident in that moment.

In saying all this, this world record attempt is my “station broadcast” of how adversity can become one’s advantage - Actively displaying how we can turn our struggles into our strengths and take them to perform and succeed far greater than we or anyone else could’ve thought.

This GWR is to challenge anyone experiencing adversity to (at the very least) receive a glimmer of hope.

That maybe, by seeing me rise from my wheelchair and set a new standard despite my circumstances, and seeing me bounce back from my bad days and go beyond them, I’d like those who are struggling to hopefully think that there’s a light at the end of their tunnel. That they too can transform their hopes through action.

And I’m also doing this to inspire possibility to those who are doing well.

Maybe someone’s got a good career, great social and family life and they live a healthy lifestyle with financial success. I want them to see how much more they can achieve.

The ultimate goal for this world record attempt is to spark one universal thought, “If that’s possible for Matt, what’s possible for me?”

Nothing is out of reach when the only way is up!

Never give up, never give in. Keep the Aussie fighting spirit alive!
